A reader wrote to me about this particular installment. He pointed out that it would be impossible for a bird to cast a shadow like that. I guess he did not see the beauty of the message.

Another thing I enjoy drawing is guys with bandages. Ever since I was a kid and I first saw the 1974 Neo-noir, Chinatown, the beat up hero stuck in my drawings.

Decided to take my time on this piece. I like the texture on the man's pants. I tend to like doing drawings of characters holding a letter. I'm always curious as to what they are reading.

Mixing up a bold and fine line. These are just quick ink sketches and they are always a surprise, but I think I'll start taking my time for the last few inktober entries. I'm also starting to miss colour.

Inktober

I read about it in Jake Parker's website, so I thought I would make my own entry. As Mr. Parker explains it:
It’s a month long appreciation of the art of drawing in ink and the practitioners that embrace that art. To celebrate I’m posting one ink drawing a day for the entire month. No pencils, no water colors, no photoshop, just the unadulterated black and white beauty of thick black ink on crisp white paper. Drawing with ink means commitment. There’s no hemming and hawing as to which pencil line you’re going to use, no sitting on the fence of values, no pussy footing with color.

It's a bit rough, but it was fun having no idea of what to draw.

The weather is a little cooler but the sun is out and there is a new issue of
King-Cat. I've been reading John Porcellino's comics for twenty years now. John's work has inspired me in so many ways. He is one of the original comics self publishers, and recently, Drawn & Quarterly has begun publishing his work. I've taught classes on making comics and King-Cat always is part of the lesson plan.

This just makes my day so much better.
