sketchbook art

Trying out some new synthetic brush pen. A Faber-Castell PITT artist pen. It's OK, it feels very foreign to me. I feel like I'm going to break it.

More of nothing

One of the things I was doing for the last couple of years was always working on the weekends. I recently went through a blue day where I was realizing that I didn't even have time to read a book on the weekends because I was so busy.
A month ago I started a ritual where I do nothing at all on Sundays. It's my own quirky Sabbath. I just read books, go for a run (rain or shine) and then go back to bed and read and nap some more. I think it's quite healthy for me, and I look forward to Sundays now. I even did some drawing.

Never on a Sunday

My goodness, it's November. It's been quite a long time since I checked in.
The rain is here again and we have all changed our clocks back and begun a new rhythm within our bodies. Winter will be here soon enough. Better stock up on the books. I am behind on a lot of work but enthused about making comics again. I have mostly spent my Sundays reading comics and doing no work at all. As it should be, right?
Thanks to those who have been writing and some people from my past who popped in to say hello.
You'll find a new fresh picks section where I mostly share some recommendations. It may be books, comics, music, or just about anything. We'll see how it turns out. My first one is worth it. Corinne's work is beautiful and fun. Check out her site for more samples of here work. I've become quite a fan. I'll try not to be a stranger.

Fall Approaching

It's September already. Time to start going into the closet and digging out my fall clothing, since I'll be needing it fairly soon.
I have uploaded some more found type photos. I hope you enjoy them. Let me know what you think of this section if you have a minute to write.
The Special Request image is for Richard Greenley III in Holland, Ohio. Thank you for the kind words and your tremendous support. For those long time readers of Broken Fender, you will recognize the diner cook on the left here. He's still cooking.

Creative Hall

This past Sunday, my pal Jason Turner and I shared a table at the annual Comix and Stories event here in Vancouver.
We sold more books than we expected and overall had a good time. It had been 6 years since I last had a table at a comic convention. I was nervous and my hands kept shaking, making it very hard to draw. I think as I'm getting older, large groups of people freak me out.
My partner in crime, Scott Malin even dropped by for a quick hello. Thanks to all those that came by to visit. Your comments and presence was much appreciated.

Shop 'til you drop

Buenos dias. The Shopping cart feature in the comics section has now been fixed. Tested it out and it is working like it should. I apologize for the inconvenience it caused earlier on.
I have uploaded some more found type images for your viewing pleasure. There are so many to post. It was a big production before the redesign, but now, it's a snap.

Shopping cart

Thanks to all who wrote in with their comments and suggestions about the redesign. It really helped. One crucial issue that was pointed out was that in the comics section, there is no shopping cart feature so you are forced to order one item at a time. (Thanks R. Greenley) I will fix this tonight after I get home from a long 12 hour shift at my "real" job. I work at a newspaper doing pre-press in case you are curious. Please be patient.

Slight of hand (coding)

Welcome to version five of my website. I'm excited about the changes. It might look like just a subtle change but underneath, it's a major overhaul. No Dreamweaver used here folks. This is all hand coding. For the fellow geeks out there, the site is completely web standards compliant! This site looks good in all browsers (Mac and PC) except Internet Explorer 5 for Mac. Microsoft stopped supporting this browser in 2001. Please let me know what you think.

The new comics section has been greatly improved. There, you will find all the info for ordering books. There is a bunch of new pictures in the found type section.

I will be updating all the sections on a frequent basis now.

I'll be signing copies of the way off main collection at the Comix and Stories event on Sunday, August 28th. Please stop by to say "hello" if you happen to be nearby. I'm hoping that Scott Malin might pop on by as well. Once the dust has settled with this book, I'll be working on the big broken fender book. I'll be keeping you posted on it more frequently since there are a few out there who are very interested with this project.

Many have asked to see pictures of my drawing table. I thought it was an odd request, but I aim to please. To the left you'll see my little corner where I get the comics produced. I still draw by hand and use india ink to finish the pages, but I use a computer to scan and clean up the final work.

Selling the wares

So the book is now available. You will get some cool postcards and a sticker with every order. If you don't have volume one of way off main, you can purchase both volume 1 and 2 as a set. This item comes in a slipcase along with the postcards and sticker. Every order gets an original sketch as well.
Just check out the comics section for information.
