One of the best books I have bought this year. Ms. Davis' art is so beautiful and her stories are honest and sometimes sad. The story is told as illustrated journal entries. I hope to see more of her work in the near future.

Another long gap between updates. I was having the time of my life in South America. I travelled to Peru, Argentina, Chile, and Easter Island. I was eating a lot of food and drinking many cups of coffee. Even drew a lot in my sketchbooks. Now it's back to business and I need to start writing some new comic strips.
I've posted some new Everyday Things for your enjoyment.

Thank you to all the folks who have recently written in with comments and critiques about Everyday Things. I appreciate your readership and support.

Due to a couple of requests, I am now offering original art pages for sale. For those who want the art but prefer a less costly alternative, I'm also offering high-quality digital prints on archival paper. Details can be found in the comics section.

Currently enjoying:

Jason Turner's return to his True Loves2. comic strip. It promises to be excellent.

Jim Campbell's surreal and fun comic book, Krachmacker.

The wonderful artwork of Jillian Tamaki, her new sketchbook,Gilded Lilies is such an incredible book. A must have.

Just a quick note to let you know that I have archived previous entries for those who requested it. Just scroll to the bottom of the journal entry section.

For those who have been curious... there is a small interview with me on the Georgia Straight blog site. Check it out if you are so inclined.

09. 3.2006

Been keeping myself busy promoting the latest and final volume of Way Off Main. Again I sincerely thank all of the readers who have been buying the book.
I travel a lot and I've decided that I'll start posting some of my travel pics every now and then. I hope you like them.

For those of you who live here in our beautiful city of Vancouver, British Columbia, I'll be participating in this years Word On The Street event. If you are near downtown on Sunday, September 24, head on down to the public library and look me up. I'll be downstairs in what is called the Word Under The Street event. It's geared more for the small press comics.

Currently enjoying:

The artwork of Los Bros Hernandez, these brothers have been doing comics for years, and I have been a fan just as long. It hurts to see how good these cats are.

The redesigned Icon Factory website.

Thanks to the folks that sent me money in advance. Your books are on the way.
I'll be posting my new strip "Everyday Things" every week so keep checking the site.

I feel like a student who has arrived late for class. He slinks into his seat, but the teacher has him explain why he is late and where has he been.
Real life and real jobs have been taking my time as well as a good dose of laziness.
Too many distractions will suffocate a creative individual. Theolonius Monk once said, "Neglect your art one day, it will neglect you for three." Thanks Monk. I'll keep that in mind.
Just so you don't think that I'm completely lazy, I have had a few projects in the works. Fist of all, the comic strip I was doing with Scott Malin , Way Off Main, finally came to a conclusion. We worked on the strip for three years. Two more years than originally planned. We are both proud of the work and had a a lot of fun doing it. I started to miss inking my own work so we agreed it was time to end the collaboration. I'm now doing a new comic strip titled Everyday Things. It's just a mish-mash of thoughts, ramblings, and small vignettes, but I'm doing the inking. I'll be posting the comics every week. Let me know what you think.

Scott Malin, has self-published a lovely sketchbook featuring 24 pages of his drawings. The book is $5.00 (includes shipping) and you can buy this gorgeous booklet by going to his website and contacting him for details.

In other news, the latest and final volume of the collected Way Off Main is now available.

Currently enjoying:

The writing of Paul Auster, currently reading his book, Hand to Mouth, a Chronicle in Early Failure

The beautiful brushwork of Sam Hiti, his new sketchbook,Ghoulash has his usual assortment of scary monsters, kids, beautiful women and a Rambo sighting.

Trying to read while the world works

It's International Workers' Day in some places. wikipedia.org/wiki/May_Day
I'm going to do my part by relaxing and reading some more books.
I just turned in the final pencils of Way Off Main to Scott Malin. We worked on the thing for 3 years. Scott did a wonderful job inking the strip and helping me edit the comic. All that time I have missed inking my own work. So at the end of June I will be debuting my new strip titled "EveryDay Things". I hope to do a lot of experimenting with the inking process. I have already written 7 weeks worth of the strip. I better start drawing.

Make believe home

Sure, I know that this is not a political forum but I want to mourn the loss of my make believe home. One of my favourite buildings was recently destroyed. I oftened daydreamed that I would own it someday. It only had two units with beautiful red doors and now in it's place will be a giant condo. I have seen the designs and it lacks any character. I would daydream that I would live on the second home and rent out the bottom floor. Dreams are cheap someone once told me. They were right. I was also told that change is inevitable. That was also on the money. The developers wiped three of the four buildings on that block.
The second day. The three buildings in the picture will be destroyed. By the third day they were all gone. The building on the left would be cleared the next day. Only the small building on the right remains on that whole block.
Even beautiful things don't last forever.

I have only 5 weeks left for the end of my current comic strip, Way Off Main. After that I will be starting a new comic strip titled "Everyday Things". More on that in the coming weeks.

Currently enjoying the beautiful artwork of Italian artist, Gipi.
