The Uptown type. Beautiful sign at this Vancouver, British Columbia strip club. This place also serves doulbe duty as the "Chica-Dee". A fictitious club for the Canadian crime drama, Intelligence. The Penthouse makes for a perfect location. Built in the 1940s, it's a wonderfully seedy place with secret rooms, five decades of clashing decor and loads of grime-covered pictures, including one portrait of founder Joe Phillipino, found shot to death outside the club in 1983. His son now operates the joint.

Instant Gratification. The collection of Everyday Things. This book collects the complete first year of my weekly comic strip. Now you can read it all in one shot instead of waiting for my slow updates. 56 pages, two colour offset printed cover, 5.25 inches wide by 6.75 inches high. Black and white interior pages. Only $5.00.
The book is available now. Go to my Comics page for ordering.

Pencil Pusher The pencils for week 23 of Everyday Things.

Inking. The inked page for week 23 of Everyday Things. At the time, I did not notice my incorrect grammer on the last panel. Since it was already inked, I had to correct it on the computer.

Ginger Tea. Week 23 of Everyday Things.

Playing the Type Hits. Lovely type on a diner table jukebox player. Helen's Grill, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

A True Story. That's me watching TV as a kid. The adult character on the bottom panel is not. The story is quite true. I grew up in Los Angeles where it does not snow. As an adult, I was living in Boston and one night, the snow just came down. I didn't even know what was falling down until I asked. Everyday Things number 22.

Department Store Wedding. I took this picture at The Bay, a fancy department store here in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Another Lesson. More chess lessons. Week 21 of Everyday Things.

Inspiration. I love drawing these types of angles. Taken in Portland, Oregon, USA.

That Guy. Week 20 of Everyday Things.

Let music pave your way. While walking down the Georgetown district in Seattle, Washington, USA, I stumbled upon this old organ. I really like the picture.

Fear of Shopping Carts. For some reason, I have lately been fascinated with shopping carts. Living in a city, you hear them and see them on the streets. The sound of the rattling carts on the concrete is jarring.
I did this quick sketch for a fan in Austin, Texas. Luckily I scanned it before sending it to him.

Week 19 of Everyday Things. Things I have learned from playing chess.

12 pages, 5.5" x 8.5"
2 colour cover, b&w interior
I first saw Corinne's work a year and a half ago when I found her wonderful comic, I lived In Alaska. I was quite pleased to know that she is still making mini-comics. Her style is quite lovely to look at and very original. I love her witty sense of humour and some of her stories were really funny. Check out her web site to find out why it she named it Maiden Housefly. Lovely.

This is version 6 of my website. It's been a while since I had updated. Doing contract work keeps me away from my own work. There are some new illos and new Found Type pics.
Please let me know what you think.
I want to thank all the people who have recently purchased my books online. I am always grateful for your support. Still updating my original Art catalogue, so those who have ordered it, please be patient.

Pencil pusher. The pencilled page for week 18 of Everyday Things. I always do the lettering before I ink the art. You can see the lettering guides on the page. I use a traditional dip pen to letter the comics.

The Inking. After the lettering is done, I start the process of inking the page. I usually start from top right to left, since I am left handed. I use traditional brushes to do my inking. I use a number 0, 00, and a number 2 brush. I also use a fine point dip pen tip for some cross-hatching and detail work. For this strip, I use watercolour. I am not that good at full colour and prefer a two colour look.

Week 18 of Everyday Things.

Among all the gaudy items in this Chinatown store, this packaging was a pleasant
surprise while walking with my wife, Anastasia.

full color cover, b&w interior
I recently read this lovely book by Rebecca Kraatz. A Canadian artist who lives in Nova Scotia. She writes and draws these beautiful one page vignettes about having crushes on the cutest boy, old movie star, and the mystery of everyday life. I really enjoyed her artwork and I found the stories beautiful. You can order this book at Rebecca's website.

A recent sketch. I really love images and type. Combined, they can become interesting art.
